THE PITTSBURGH LEGACY ACADEMY

Homeschool Resource Center

Launch your legacy.

The Pittsburgh Legacy Academy Homeschool Resource Center provides innovative learning opportunities to supplement the quality education you are already providing at home as a parent. Our mission is to partner with God, with parents, and with the community to empower children through education to live out their true identity.

As a homeschool parent, you understand that the education system is not equipped to empower your children to thrive at their highest potential. We understand too that as a homeschool parent, you are always looking for opportunities to enrich and build upon the quality education you are providing at home.

Our inaugural winter semester, running from January through March of 2026, offered the following courses: Dance, Acting, Sports & Fitness, & Biology. It was a great success! Registration reached 91% capacity!

Our 2026 Spring Semester will run from April 1st through May 20th each Wednesday morning from 10am-12pm, offering the following courses: Experimental Science, Carpentry, Photography, and Team Sports!

All classes will take place in the state of the art All American Field House, Pittsburgh's premier sports, fitness, and event complex, located in the heart of Monroeville (1 Racquet Ln, Monroeville, PA 15146).

Scroll down for more details on our course offerings starting April 1st!

In addition to our courses, enrolled students can participate in a fun lunch/recess hour with classmates from 12pm - 1pm, free of charge! (pack a lunch to bring!) Parents can drop off students for classes from 10am-12pm, but parents must be present for students participating in the lunch/recess hour.

Father and Son Carpentry
Introduction to Carpentry & Pinewood Derby with Alan Cogley

Ages 8-12

This hands-on course gives students the opportunity to design, build, and race their very own Pinewood Derby cars from start to finish. Perfect for kids who enjoy working with their hands, this class introduces creativity, craftsmanship, and friendly competition in a fun and encouraging environment. Students will learn how to plan their car design, safely shape (using hand held coping saws) and sand their wood block, paint and customize their build, and properly install wheels and axles. Along the way, we’ll discuss weight placement, balance, and simple techniques that help improve speed and performance. Beyond building a race car, students will develop patience, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and confidence through hands-on learning. The course will conclude with an exciting race day where students can showcase their hard work and creativity on the track. Some portions of the project, particularly sanding and painting, must be completed at home, so parent involvment is a must!

In Phase 1, we will continue expanding our Homeschool Resource Center to eventually offer dozens of courses that serve hundreds of homeschool students of all ages. From traditional courses like calculus or chemistry to more specialized elective courses like baking or carpentry, we envision the Legacy Academy Homeschool Resource Center providing innovative learning opportunities to empower children to develop and thrive in their true, God-given identities.

In Phase 2, The Legacy Academy will open a private Christian school for full time enrollment. With a special emphasis on a rigorous literacy curriculum that develops critical thinkers and prolific writers and communicators, students will also have dozens of elective classes to choose from to supplement their core classes. Students will develop skills and experience in vocations they show interest in through the elective courses offered at the Resource Center, as well as apprenticeship opportunities.
